Costs have rocketed by £5 billion during the past year, the equivalent of an extra £194 per taxpayer, and are expected to rise rapidly, according to the charity Relationship Foundation. It means every taxpayer is paying £1,350 to support lone parents and their children through tax benefits and additional costs such as health, crime and education. The charity’s report suggested solo parenthood accounts for 15 per of all babies born and is expected to grow.

Michael Trend, executive director of the Relationships Foundation, said: “We recognize that lone parents and their children bear the brunt of the costs of breakdown. However, in these difficult economic times it is important to note that taxpayers foot much of the financial bill.

it is such a shame that lone parents struggle as much as they do because of the cost of everything in this country, if businesses werent so greedy the whole country will cope better i think.

lone parents are not the only reasons for this but something does need to be done about teen age single mums and also a better way of getting fathers to pay support for there kids by court orders being put on incomes or bennefits
