Ryanair hits back in OFT fees row

John Fingleton, chief executive of the OFT, accused the budget airline of operating within only the "narrow letter of the law" in the way it charges customers for paying by card.

The OFT's frustration is over Ryanair not revealing charges for card payments until the end of the booking process and justifying this by saying holders of MasterCard debit cards, which the OFT claims are rarely used, can avoid a fee. However, Ryanair, which carried 58m passengers last year, said it "fails to understand why it was singled out for these inaccurate criticisms" and attacked the OFT's record on British Airways and BAA, the owner of six UK airports.
